2011 Caring Kind Winner
Jeanette Henn, LPN, is the 2011 Caring Kind Award Winner of Antelope Memorial Hospital. She was recognized for the award on Thursday, May 12th during National Hospital Week.
Each year the Nebraska Hospital Association honors employees from hospitals across the state as "Caring Kind" employees. The honored employees must exemplify the spirit of someone who gives that "something special" to others.
Jeanette was nominated and selected by her fellow AMH employees to win this prestigious award. Her nomination reflected the many positive qualities she brings to work each day.
Jeanette has been employed at Antelope Memorial Hospital for over 23 years as a LPN on the floor and part-time Nurse Coordinator. The past four years, she has also been actively involved in the implementation of electronic charting in nursing. In recent months, she has primarily focused on implementing CPOE (physicians and nurse practitioners placing orders by computer). AMH is one of the first rural hospitals in Northeast Nebraska to implement CPOE. Her work involved educating the staff, repeatedly re-evaluating the system and making adjustments as needed. She often spent hours on the phone with HMS in resolving "computer challenges" for both the nursing and medical staff as they integrated the new electronic system.
Her nomination stated that she that she had the "patience of Job" when she worked with the staff and was an "unsung hero-asset" to AMH. Her computer skills and problem solving techniques made her very easy to work with. She was an excellent teacher and her positive attitude was infectious. She always took the time to help others with reassurance, a smile and a giggle. She was a team player, always working for the good of all. Her dedication to AMH successfully transitioning to paperless was second to none.
"I am truly honored to receive this award," said Henn. "It is exciting to help AMH advance into the world of electronics (computerized) health records. I understand the challenges involved in integrating a new system on top of the staff's normal workload. I feel blessed to work with such a great group of people here at AMH - to help things go smoothly for everyone. It was a team effort and very rewarding."
Residing in Petersburg, Jeanette and her husband, Dave, are members of the St. John's Catholic Church and have three children. Their son, Justin, lives in Elgin. Their daughter, Jessica, her husband, Craig Niewohner, and daughter Sydney, age 5 months, live in Elgin. Their youngest daughter, Morgan, resides with them. Jeanette's hobbies include camping, going to concerts and rodeos, gardening and creating computer card invites. In addition, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Next fall, the Nebraska Hospital Association will host an award presentation at the Cornhusker in Lincoln honoring Karen and other "Caring Kind Award" recipients in Nebraska.
